As I’ve developed my photography style over time, my subjects have also changed. I started with flowers, before dabbling in still lifes and fine art, moving onto landscapes, food, and street photography, and slowly towards portraits. I realised I was using my more introverted nature to excuse my unwillingness to shoot portraits.

Until I realised I was far more curious about people and emotions and how to manipulate (natural) props to create a story about humanity in some form. To me, a portrait is less about a person and more about a story. Which means I attempt to create a story through every photo I take (less easy than you’d think because, like most millennials, I tend to just press the shutter as many times as possible!).

As Vincent Van Gogh put it so aptly, “I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.” So I view every photo as a portrait, including this set of Wye River Portraits.
