Acknowledgement of Country

FlowerFolio is on the land of the Boonwurrung peoples of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. We continue to speak the truth and learn the languages, histories, and cultures of one of the oldest continuous civilisations in the world.

Sovereignty was never ceded.

In Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, there have always been rites performed when foreign people passed through or stayed on another group’s Country. When permission was granted through a ceremony, visitors had to respect the laws of the Owners in exchange for hospitality and gifts.

Today, it is important for us to show respect for Traditional Owners and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to be excluded from broader Australian society. A history of dispossession and colonisation lies at the heart of the disparity between Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander and other Australians today. FlowerFolio chooses to include recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples because it contributes, even in a small way, to ending the exclusion that has been so damaging.
