Postcards From London

📌 London, United Kingdom | 9 hours

My first glimpse of London was watching the sun rise over the city from an aeroplane above.

We spent a brief 9 hours in London en route to Paris (what can I say, I was just itching to get there asap!), knowing we’d spend more time there at the end of our Europe adventure.

Of course, first things first, a giant cup of coffee (it was a long flight), and then we had a few errands to run after getting into the city via the Underground (a tad too excited to do so, but it’s iconic, right?), taking out money, sorting our luggage (we’d originally planned to leave some in London), and getting new SIMs, which ended up being way more hassle than we’d anticipated. But in the end, we had a lovely day wandering the streets around St. Pancras International, making our way up streets that look like they come from Mary Poppins or something (I know, cliche), towards Camden Lock Market. It’s such a vibrant area with plenty of food spots and shopping opportunities (not that we did much of that), and a lovely little waterway, the Regent’s Canal, streams through the area.

It was a gorgeous, sunny, blue skies kinda day, certainly nothing like what I’d expected based on what I know of UK weather, but it was a pleasant surprise considering we’re escaping the Melbourne cold!

We ate strawberries in the park, fell in love with the cute little taxis (yes, I have a thing for small vintage cars), and got our first taste of old, stylish architecture. I love the florals around the pubs, the mix of trees and gardens, and the mix of eras of design trends. Even the bins look cute!?

(Note to self: flats are not good walking shoes. Another note to self: don’t assume your phone isn’t locked to a network. Having never had an issue in the past, I thought I was all good, and it turned out I wasn’t. Final note to self: don’t forget your debit card PIN. Might be helpful. Might waste less time.)

And all too soon, it was time to get on the Eurostar train to Paris…

But, don’t worry, I’ll be back in London soon!
